What is chrysin Powder
Chrysin powder exists in the seeds and stem bark of Oroxylum indicum (a plant from the Bignoniaceae family, commonly known as wood butterfly tree), the heartwood of Pinus monticola Dougl. (a conifer from the Pinaceae family, known as western white pine), and the heartwood of P. aristata Engelm. (another conifer from the Pinaceae family, known as bristlecone pine), among others. It exhibits toxic effects on certain cancer cells.
It is a pale yellow prismatic crystal, which has a melting point of 285℃. It is soluble in alkaline hydroxide solutions, slightly soluble in ether, ethanol, and chloroform, and insoluble in water.

Chrysin Powder Production Process
1.Raw Material Pretreatment
The seeds/bark of the Oroxylum indicum are cleaned and then dried at a low temperature of 40~50℃ until the moisture content is ≤8%. The material is then mechanically pulverized into a powder with a particle size of 60~80 mesh to increase the surface area for solvent contact.
2. Solvent Extraction (Crude Extraction)
Extraction Solvent: 70%~80% ethanol solution(or methanol-water mixture, which requires detoxification treatment subsequently).
Solid-liquid ratio of 1:10~15 (raw material:solvent); Hot reflux extraction at 70℃ for 2~3 times, each time for 2 hours
Objective: To initially extract flavonoids (including Chrysin).
3. Concentration and Preliminary Purification
The solvent is recovered by rotary evaporation at 60℃, yielding an extract (Chrysin concentration ≈ 5~10%).
Impurity Removal and Decolorization:
The extract is extracted with petroleum ether to remove lipid-soluble impurities; Pigments are adsorbed using activated carbon (at 60℃ for 30 minutes).
4. Separation and Purification
A. Polyamide Column Chromatography Separation:
The crude crystals are dissolved in 90% ethanol, mixed with polyamide resin, and the solvent is evaporated before loading onto the column.
Gradient elution: First, elute with 40–50% ethanol for 4–6 bed volumes (BV) to remove impurities;
Then, elute with 70% ethanol, monitor using thin-layer chromatography (TLC), and collect the fractions with high chrysin concentration.
B.Concentration and Recrystallization
The eluate is concentrated under reduced pressure until the alcohol concentration reaches 30%, followed by refrigeration to induce crystallization.
The crystals are then dissolved by refluxing with 90–99% ethanol, concentrated to half the original volume, and subjected to a second crystallization to enhance purity.
5. Drying and Finished Product Preparation
Filter the crystals and wash with anhydrous ethanol to remove residual solvents.
Conduct vacuum drying at 40–50°C for 6–8 hours to obtain a pale yellow prismatic crystalline powder.
Perform HPLC purity testing (≥98%), and package the product once it meets the standard.
