About Grapefruit Extract

1.Raw Material Pretreatment
★Material Selection and Cleaning
Fresh grapefruit peels with moderate ripeness and free from diseases and pests are selected. They are first rinsed under running water to remove surface impurities and dirt.
★Drying and Crushing
The peels are dried at a low temperature of 55–60 ℃ until the moisture content is less than 8%. After cooling, they are chopped and then passed through a 60–80 mesh sieve using a high-speed pulverizer to obtain uniform powder, which increases the contact area with subsequent solvents.
2. Extraction Process
★Solvent Extraction Method
A 60-75% ethanol solution (methanol) is used, with a solid-liquid ratio of 1:20. Reflux extraction is carried out at 50-90 ℃ for 2-3 hours, and the process is repeated 2-3 times to improve the yield. Alternatively, polyamide column chromatography can be used for purification, with gradient elution using distilled water and 95% ethanol to collect the target components.
★Auxiliary Synergistic Technologies
Ultrasonic/Microwave Assistance: Adding an aqueous solution of surfactants and combining with ultrasonic treatment can shorten the extraction time and improve efficiency.
Hot Water Extraction Method: Boiling for 30 minutes (repeated 2-3 times), concentrating, and then standing for crystallization at 0-3 ℃. It is suitable for specific scenarios but has a relatively low recovery rate.
3. Purification and Refinement
★Preliminary Purification
The extraction solution is decolorized by activated carbon adsorption, and solid residues and pigments are removed through plate-and-frame filtration.
★Deep Purification
The concentrated solution is passed through a macroporous resin column (such as type AB-8), followed by gradient ethanol elution (30% → 95%), and the high-purity naringin fraction is collected.
4. Crystallization and Drying
★Low-Temperature Crystallization
After concentration, the purified solution is allowed to stand at 4℃ for 24 hours to precipitate crystals, and the mother liquor is removed by centrifugal separation.
★Vacuum Drying
The crystals are dried under vacuum conditions of 40-45℃ and -0.09MPa to obtain pale yellow crystalline powder (purity ≥ 98%).
